Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Prabhas in the titular role alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha and Sriya Reddy. Set in the fictional dystopian city-state of Khansaar, where the monarchy still holds power, the movie follows the complex friendship between Deva, the exiled prince of Khansaar, played by Prabhas and Varadha, the current prince of Khansaar, portrayed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
As the story unfolds, Varadha finds himself facing a coup d'état orchestrated by his father's ministers and relatives, prompting him to seek the help of his friend Deva. Together, they join forces to ensure Varadha becomes the undisputed ruler of Khansaar. Interestingly, the film's initial storyline was inspired by Neel's debut film Ugramm (2014) and marks the first installment of a two-part film series.
The project was officially announced in December 2020 under the title Salaar, with the official title being revised to Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire in July 2023. Principal photography commenced in January 2021 and spanned nearly three years, with filming taking place sporadically in several locations, including Telangana, Italy and Budapest, before wrapping up in late 2023. However, the production faced numerous challenges, including the pandemic, reshoots, and VFX delays, which resulted in multiple postponements of the film's release date.
