Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik has tied the knot with Pakistani actress Sana Javed. Malik announced the news on Saturday through a post on social media, sharing pictures from their wedding ceremony. The caption of the post reads: "And we created you in pairs." He was previously married to Indian tennis icon Sania Mirza, and they have a son together.
Following Malik's public declaration of his marriage to the Pakistani actress in Karachi, Sania's father, Imran Mirza, revealed that his daughter and the veteran cricketer had divorced through 'Khula,' before latter's second marriage.
What is Khula?
Khula is a legal term in Islamic jurisprudence that refers to a form of divorce initiated by the wife. In this, the wife seeks a divorce from her husband. Unlike Talaq, which is the unilateral right of the husband to divorce, Khula provides the woman with the ability to initiate the divorce process. A woman may seek Khula for various reasons, such as incompatibility, dissatisfaction with the marriage, or any valid reason recognised by Islamic law.
The process typically involves the wife requesting the divorce from her husband and, if he agrees, the marriage is dissolved. Khula is considered a legitimate and recognized way for a Muslim woman to seek a divorce when necessary, allowing her to dissolve the marriage by mutual consent or with the approval of religious authorities.
Shoaib Malik and Sana Javed
Rumours of Shoaib Malik dating Sana Javed had been circulating for some time, and the speculation gained momentum when the former Pakistan captain extended birthday wishes to the actress last year, saying, "Happy Birthday Buddy," accompanied by a picture of the two. Shoaib Malik's announcement of his wedding to Sana Javed came as a significant surprise on both sides of the border.

Shoaib Malik-Sania Mirza's divorce
Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza had tied the knot in Hyderabad in 2010 in a traditional Muslim ceremony, followed by a Walima ceremony in Sialkot, Pakistan. The couple also welcomed their son, Izhaan, in 2018. Recently, Sania shared a cryptic post about divorce and marriage. She posted, "Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard. Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard. Being in debt is hard. Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard. Communication is hard. Not communicating is hard. Choose your hard. Life will never be easy. It will always be hard. But we can choose our hard. Pick wisely."
