‘She Looked Like A Doll’: Govinda Admits He Was Attracted To Actress Neelam Kothari In 90s, Says He Wanted To Marry Her

Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda recently spoke about his past relationship with actress Neelam Kothari, which has reignited discussions around claims of an affair during his marriage to wife Sunita Ahuja. He shared his feelings for Neelam from the early days of his acting career, bringing back the spotlight to their alleged romance, which was widely discussed in the 1980s and 1990s.

In an interview with Sidharth Kanan, Govinda was directly asked if he had been in love with Neelam Kothari. He responded honestly, saying that they had a close bond, and he was drawn to her personality. He said, “Dekhiye hum sab jitne gaon ke youngsters hai unhe goriyan bahut pasand aati hai. Ye jo opposite attraction hai ye hua karta tha.” (Look, all of us young guys from small villages are really attracted to fair-skinned women. It was that classic case of 'opposites attract' happening back then.)

Talking about Neelam, Govinda said, Shee was different and such a good girl. My god, aisa lagta tha jaise wo ek doll hai. Doll type ki jo personality hai, wo usme thi aur mujhe aisa laga woww.” (She was different and such a good girl. My god, it felt like she was a doll. She had that doll-like personality, and it just made me go, Wow!)

Govinda Called Neelam Lucky For Him

Govinda further added about working with the actress, the actor said, “Mai inki picture dekh rha tha, seetiyan baja raha tha maine shayad hi socha tha ki mai iske sath kaam karuga. But when she became my heroine, mujhe vishwas hi nahi ho rha tha.” Govinda also called Neelam Lucky, as the duo gave so many hit films and songs.

On his take on affairs and romance,e he said, “ Us time to avi ke jaise affairs nhi hote the. Hum bawal machate the. Ho gya..chal rha hai..lag raha hai chal raha hai. Pehle ke romance sirf dekhne matra hota tha.” He added, Humm dono ne kitna hit films kya, superhit gaane, film hit.”

In an old 1990 interview with Stardust, Govinda also revealed that he had once wanted to marry Neelam. At that time, he had even broken off his engagement with Sunita Ahuja, whom he eventually married. He said, “We met so often, and the more I got to know her, the more I liked her. She was the kind of woman any man would have lost his heart to. I lost mine.”

He further admitted, “I asked Sunita to leave me. I broke off my engagement with her. And if Sunita had not called me after five days and convinced me again, I would probably have married Neelam.” He concluded by saying, “I wanted to marry her. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”
