Veteran Bollywood actor Satinder Kumar Khosla aka Birbal, has passed away on Tuesday evening at a private hospital in Mumbai. The actor was aged 84, and succumbed to death due to cardiac arrest at the Kokilabai Hospital in Mumbai. Satinder Kumar Khosla’s final rites will be performed on Wednesday, as informed by his family members. Several people from the film industry shared their condolence messages for the legendary actor.

He was also featured in films like 'Naseeb', 'Yaarana', 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke' and 'Anjaam' among others. Notably, he was known for his role in 'Sholay' and 'Mera Naam Joker.' 

Satinder Kumar Khosla’s career spanned over five decades and saw more than 500 films. He essayed the role of a prisoner in ‘Sholay’ which made him garner tons of attention and applause from the audience. Known particularly for his comic roles and appearance, the actor was characterised by a bald look with a thick moustache.

Birbal was born in 1938 in Gurdaspur, Punjab, and made his acting debut with the film Upkar in 1967. He then went on to feature in films across various languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, and Bhojpuri.

His half-cut moustache look in ‘Sholay’ will always be regarded as an iconic one. It’s said that during the shoot of his film, Manoj Kumar along with filmmaker Raj Khosla found his name ‘not so filmy’ and thus decided to call him ‘Birbal.’

Apart from his small roles on the big screen, he also ventured into the TV space and took it by storm with his commendable acting skills. His comic timing with impressive dialogue delivery skills will always be remembered and cherished by his fans.
