Popular Bengali actor Sonali Chakraborty died in Kolkata on Monday following a prolonged illness. She was admitted to the hospital after being unwell for quite some time and breathed her last today morning. Reportedly, the actress was suffering from liver complications. She was undergoing treatment at the hospital for months. She was admitted to the hospital earlier this year.
The 59-years-old actress who is survived by her actor-husband Shankar Chakraborty and their daughter had cut short her silver screen appearances in the recent past because of prolonged health issues. She was reportedly suffering from chronic Liver disease. On Monday morning, her husband Shankar Chakraborty took to his social media handle to announce the news.
As soon as the news of her death spread, fans and other celebs expressed grief on her demise. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee offered her condolence on social media. The West Bengal Motion Picture Artists’ Forum also expressed grief at the tragic news while the death of the veteran actress has left several Tolly stars mourning.
Known for her films such as 'Dadar Kirti' (1980), 'Har Jeet' (2002) and 'Bandhan' (2004), among others, Sonali started her career with films and later, became a part of popular Bengali TV soaps. She acted in several Bengali hits including Rachana Banerjee and Ferdous Ahmed-starrer Har Jeet (2002) and Jeet and Koel Mallick starrer Bandhan (2004) to name a few.
Some of her most notable works include Choker Bali: A Passion Play, Satyameba Jayate, Gaatchora, and others. She was last seen in the mega serial 'Gaatchora'.
