Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki, popularly known as the "Song-Song couple," were once the epitome of a real-life fairy-tale romance. The two met on the sets of the 2016 KBS drama Descendants of the Sun (DOTS), where their on-screen chemistry captured the hearts of Kdrama fans worldwide. Their love story quickly transitioned from reel to real, culminating in a grand wedding in October 2017. However, their marriage lasted only two years, ending in divorce in June 2019, leaving fans shocked and heartbroken.

For years, the reasons behind their separation remained a mystery, with neither party addressing the speculations surrounding their split. Recently, Song Hye Kyo broke her silence for the first time, shedding light on what led to the end of their relationship.

According to Chinese media reports, Song Hye Kyo revealed that her initial views on marriage were hesitant. During an interview, she shared that she never intended to marry but was won over by Song Joong Ki’s persistent efforts. His dedication and desire to build a future together eventually convinced her to take the plunge.

However, trouble began soon after their wedding. The couple reportedly had conflicting views on starting a family. While Song Joong Ki was eager to have children early in their marriage, Song Hye Kyo felt differently. She wanted to focus on strengthening their relationship before taking such a significant step. This fundamental disagreement became a recurring issue, leading to repeated arguments and eventually irreconcilable differences.

The split wasn’t amicable, as reports suggest Song Hye Kyo learned about Song Joong Ki filing for divorce through the media while she was away for work. The abrupt nature of the separation added to the emotional turmoil, sparking debates and criticisms among fans.

Since their divorce, Song Joong Ki has remarried and welcomed two children with his Italian wife Katy Louise Saunders in 2023. Meanwhile, Song Hye Kyo has remained single, focusing on her acting career. Her recent film, The Priests: Dark Nuns, has been performing well at the box office.
