Mehreen Pirzada made her big Bollywood debut in 'Philuari' along with Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh. She received several good opportunities in the Telugu film industry and established herself as a successful actress with hit films like 'Mahanubhavudu', 'Raja The Great', 'F2: Fun And Frustration', among others. After making a mark in Tollywood, Mehreen also worked in Tamil and Punjabi films. She recently made her OTT debut with the much-awaited period crime thriller show 'Sultan Of Delhi' and has been receiving a good response for playing the role of Sanjana.
In an exclusive interview with Jagran English, Mehreen talked about her experience of working in 'Sultan Of Delhi', the differences she felt while working in other film industries, her OTT debut and more.
1. What did you find interesting about your character Sanjana that made you say yes to Sultan Of Delhi?
Firstly, I feel working with such a big director Milan Luthria and I also wanted my role to have a good character graph. The most important thing I saw was that she plays a victim of marriage abuse which is a topic which is very important to be addressed in today's society. But in our country, especially, marital rape is not considered rape and there are lots of women who go through something like this on a daily basis. It is not considered or seen as rape because they think they are married and their husband can do anything with them. When I read about her role, I felt Sanjana is a very important character because she is the main reason Sahil's character became Sultan of Delhi.
I was also very excited to work with the whole cast as they are amazing actors and I am happy that I got to be a part of it. Also, Hotstar released the show during the World Cup and nowadays, all of us are on Hotstar because of that. In between that, sometimes people were waiting to watch our show.

2. You have mostly worked in the Telugu film industry alongside a few films in Punjabi and Tamil. Do you find any difference between the Hindi film industry and the other film industries you have worked in?
Not at all. It is just the language, otherwise, there is no difference. Because ultimately, the main goal is to make good content and films and I really enjoyed it. I had made my Hindi debut with 'Philauri' but my first film was Telugu. There has been a long gap since 'Philauri' but I am happy to be back and I hope to find more good films and shows.
3. Your brother Gurfateh Pirzada is all set to star in Karan Johar's film 'Bedhadak'. Can we expect you to work with Dharma in future or any other Hindi film?
Oh sure, I would love to if there is a chance. I am also waiting for that call.

4. As the dominance of the South Indian film industry is growing day by day, do you think is it a safer choice for newcomers through the South than Bollywood?
Not at all. For me, during the shooting of my Telugu film, I had auditioned for 'Philauri' and I got a call that they liked my audition and Anushka wanted to meet you. Then, I did 'Philauri', which also did well but I signed so many Telugu films and I got so busy here. My ultimate goal is just to make good films and the barrier between languages like Hindi, Punjabi or Telugu has been crossed long back with 'RRR'. There are no North or South films now as we consider them Indian films and it is all about the essence.
Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi were seen in 'Jawan' and many South Indian directors are getting the opportunity to work in Hindi cinema. Bollywood has realised that this barrier needs to be crossed.

5. Do you have any dream project, actor or filmmaker you want to work with?
I have a long list of people I want to work with and I want to be in projects that will leave a mark. I would like to do something like Wamiqa (Gabi) did in the show 'Jubliee' and I like how she is getting her due as a good actor and loved her performance. I just finished watching 'Khufiya' and loved Kritika Kamra's role in 'Bambai Meri Jaan'. I would like to do roles like these that will push you as an actor.
