Suzhal The Vortex 2 Creators Pushkar And Gayatri REVEAL Why Vijay Sethupathi Wasn't Cast As Lead; Say ‘He Can’t Come Across…’

Suzhal The Vortex Season 2 has become one of the most anticipated Tamil web series after its announcement. Created and written by the acclaimed duo Pushkar and Gayatri, the Tamil-language crime thriller series Suzhal The Vortex is set to return with its second season, promising a thrilling and adventurous ride. The trailer has already captured the attention of viewers, who are eagerly awaiting the series to begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video soon. Recently, Pushkar and Gayatri discussed their decision to avoid casting A-listers like Vijay Sethupathi, opting instead for non-stars in the series.

Suzhal The Vortex creator duo Pushkar and Gayatri are returning with season 2. The eight-episode series stars Kathir and Aishwarya Rajesh in lead roles. Along with them, the series also features Lal, Saravanan, Gouri Kishan, Samyuktha Vishwanathan, Monisha Blessy, Rini, Shrisha, Abhirami Bose, Nikhila Sankar, Kalaivani Bhaskar, and Ashwini Nambiar in key roles. When asked about the casting process and why they avoided bringing in big names, Pushkar explained in a conversation with News 18, "That’s why the casting process is always tricky. Not every star can do every role, and not every role is right for every star. Once you know that the audience has expectations from you to deliver certain things, it becomes tricky to break that and deliver something else. All the topmost stars that we’ve spoken to believe that they’ve got to cater to their image, as it becomes too big a gamble if they deviate from it."

He further emphasized the need for Suzhal’s lead character to have an innocent face, a trait that not many seasoned stars can boast. Pushkar stated, "For a series like Suzhal, at the beginning of season one, we wanted someone with a wide-eyed innocence, leading up to someone who now has a better understanding of the world. If we had somebody with sharpness in the eye and a sense of being completely settled, it wouldn’t have established the character. There are very few who could’ve carried off that innocence."

Shedding more light on this, Gayatri explained how the presence of a star like Vijay Sethupathi would have impacted the character and storyline differently. She added, "It’s important to bring a little bit of the person inside the character. Only then does the character feel more real. For instance, if we had Vijay Sethupathi instead of Kathir, we would’ve had to look at the character differently. Forget stardom and marketability, we would still have to consider his public perception."

She continued by stating that Vijay cannot come across as someone innocent, due to his distinctive way of speaking. "Vijay has a way of speaking, and he can’t come across as someone who’s innocent. If it were Vijay, we would’ve had to change the whole character arc. There needs to be a strong alignment between the actors and the characters." Adding to it, Pushkar pointed out that the audience would also have been disappointed with Vijay in the series, as they wouldn’t have been able to see the image he is known for.
