In a move that has stunned fans, Jason has reportedly dropped the initial ‘V’, representing his father’s name from his professional identity.
In the Tamil film industry, it is a long-standing tradition for children to use the first letter of their father’s name as an initial. For years, the young director was known with the ‘V’ initial. However, recent reports indicate he has now adopted the letter ‘S’. Insiders suggest this stands for his mother, Sangeetha Sornalingam. While some believe this is a move to establish an independent creative identity, others see it as a reaction to the ongoing family turmoil. According to regional reports, “Jason Sanjay may now be going by 'Jason Sanjay S,' with the 'S' reportedly standing for his mother Sangeetha’s surname, Sornalingam.”

The name change comes at a time when Vijay’s 27-year marriage to Sangeetha is reportedly ending. Sangeetha filed for divorce in 2025, with the news recently gaining massive traction online. The petition allegedly contains serious claims regarding the actor's private life. The reports suggest that Sangeetha found out about an alleged relationship in 2021. According to the filings, “Vijay had an extramarital affair with an actress,” and “Vijay used to accompany the actress on foreign trips and also at public events.” Many fans have speculated that the actress in question is Trisha Krishnan, a frequent co-star of the actor, though no official confirmation has ever been provided.
