Actor Thalapathy Vijay’s wife, Sangeeta Sornalingam, has reportedly filed for divorce after more than 25 years of marriage. The couple, who tied the knot in August 1999, share two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha. The petition has been filed under provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954, citing grounds such as adultery and cruelty. According to the plea, Sangeeta has alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress. She claimed that she discovered the alleged affair in 2021, which ultimately led her to seek legal separation from the actor.
According to a report in India Today, n her petition, Sangeeta noted, "Respondent even after assuring to end relationship continued the adulterous relationship without remorse." These claims form the core basis of Sangeeta’s divorce petition and have been cited as grounds under Sections 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d) of the Special Marriage Act.
Under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, divorce can be sought on grounds of adultery and cruelty, both of which have been cited in Sangeeta’s petition. The case is currently pending before the District Court.
Meanwhile, Vijay's Jana Nayagan has been postponed. The movie was initially planned for Sankranti release, but it failed to received censor certificate on time. The makers of the film are now aiming for a revised release date that strategically coincides with Vijay’s birthday and the Muharram holiday, hoping to maximize audience turnout and festive footfall at the box office.
