Netflix's supernatural rom-com, Atypical Family, has wrapped up its run with a satisfying conclusion, garnering the highest ratings yet. Starring Jang Ki Yong and Chun Woo Hee, the series maintained a decent viewership, despite not fully meeting the high expectations surrounding Jang Ki Yong's return to the small screen. As the 12-episode journey ends, fans are left with a mix of emotions and some burning questions.

The show follows Bok Gwi Ju, a character who can travel through time, and his complicated relationship with Da Hae. The final episodes are packed with dramatic twists, including a life-threatening fire and a mysterious scar that links past and present events.

The Atypical Family Episode 11 Cliffhanger

In the penultimate episode, Bok Gwi Ju discovers a mark on his neck that confirms his mother's ominous dream about his death. This injury, sustained while trying to help a young Da Hae, mirrors a scar she remembers seeing on her savior years ago. Gwi Ju hides this from Da Hae, but she eventually finds out, adding to the tension and anticipation for the final episode.

The Atypical Family: Ending Explained

In the series finale, Gwi Ju consults a pharmacist to understand the time he has left, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown. Grace sets Dong Hee up with her uncle after Dong Hee's breakup with Ji Han, who, driven by jealousy, tries to sabotage their happiness. Meanwhile, Da Hae grows suspicious of Gwi Ju's constant use of turtlenecks and eventually discovers the scar on his neck, confirming her fears.

A fire breaks out at Bok In-a’s school and In-a gets trapped. Gwi Ju rushes to the scene, battling the flames to save her. He holds up a collapsing wall, allowing In-a and Da Hae to escape. Despite Da Hae’s pleas for him to stay, Gwi Ju uses this moment to time-travel back to when In-a is born, hoping to change their fate.

Gwi Ju's time-travel attempt appears successful when he manages to interact with Da Hae and their family in the past. He shares a tender moment with his deceased wife and a lost colleague before disappearing into the flames. Five years pass with no sign of Gwi Ju and Da Hae has moved on, living with the Bok family and raising her son, who inherits his father's supernatural abilities.

In a tear-jerking moment, the boy stands with his father, having pulled him from the past. The family reunites with tears of joy and smiles, marking a happy ending for Atypical Family.

Atypical Family wraps up with a blend of drama, supernatural elements and heartfelt moments. The show's highest rating of 4.9 per cent nationwide, according to Nielsen Korea, reflects its impact on viewers.
