The makers of the Tamil language family drama film The Great Indian Kitchen have locked its OTT release date. Starring Aishwarya Rajesh and Rahul Ravindran in lead roles, the film has been helmed by R. Kannan and released in cinemas on February 3, 2023.

The plot of The Great Indian Kitchen revolves around a woman, who struggles after marriage to be the submissive wife that her husband and his family expects her to be. The film then follows her journey, as she changes herself and eventually changes the household.

The film is the official Tamil language adaptation of the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen that released in 2021 and starred Nimisha Sajayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu.

According to reports, The Great Indian Kitchen will be released on OTT giant Zee5. The film will begin streaming from March 3, 2023.

The lead star of the film, Rahul Ravindran talked about The Great Indian Kitchen and the challenges of playing a toxic husband in the film. The actor, who is also a National Award-winner said that he felt it was his responsibility to do the film.

Speaking to The New Indian Express, Rahul Ravindran said, “A few days after the Malayalam film was released, director Kannan sir asked me to watch it. He also mentioned that he had acquired the remake rights and asked if I wanted to be part of it.”

“We were contemplating the remake even before the original had become popular. I wasn’t expecting such a film at all. It evoked a strong response in me and I felt it was my responsibility to do this film,” the actor said in his interview.

Rahul Ravindran further added, “The fact that the film bothered them to feel compelled to argue and have a discourse about such topics is itself a win for me. On the other hand, many women told me they found the story to be relatable. I feel that if the film made the lives of at least five women better, that’s our success.”
