JE Entertainment Desk: Lily Rose Depp and Weeknd -starrer ‘The Idol’ has been in controversy since the day it started streaming on HBO. Now, the Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) has called for HBO to cancel the music industry drama series, reason being its depiction of “torture porn” and “sexual abuse”.
The organisation, known for promoting family-friendly entertainment for kids, has called for the cancellation of the Sam Levinson-produced programme. It has come under fire for its gratuitous and explicit s*x scenes, which some have said portray male rape fantasies.
According to a report in Binged, Melissa Henson, the vice president of the Parents Television and Media Council, released a statement, “‘The Idol’ has been rightfully panned by TV critics because each episode delves deeper into ‘torture porn’ and sexual abuse.” Henson requested HBO to separate itself from the show by declining to renew it for a second season, which she alleges glamorises and encourages violent sexual abuse to youngsters.
