One of the most controversial movies of the year 2023, The Kerala Story, is currently streaming on Zee5. Even though almost a year has passed since its release, ‘The Kerala Story’, featuring Adah Sharma, continues to be a topic of ongoing discussions and debates. Recently, the movie sparked fresh conversations after being broadcasted on Doordarshan. The decision to air the film on the channel, despite previous controversies and accusations, reignited public discourse, with many expressing their disapproval.

The Kerala Story Controversy

Religious leaders from Kerala have voiced their criticism against director Sudipto Sen's work, condemning the screening as an effort to sow seeds of division within society. According to a report in Hindustan Times, Imam VP Suhaib Maulavi said, “Such movies are propagating things that are completely baseless. I have only one thing to tell those people who screen such movies... We should not become tools in the hands of those who spread lies," he said.

He further added, “Art should not be something that creates division in society; on the other hand, it should persuade people to live a harmonious life.”

During the sermon, well-known Islamic scholar Hussain Madavoor addressed the audience and emphasized that the notion of "love jihad" purported by the movie is unsubstantiated in the country. These remarks surfaced amidst discussions sparked by the decision of the Idukki Diocese to incorporate the film into an extensive training regimen designed for teenagers, igniting widespread conversation throughout Kerala.
