Female-centric cinema has been getting more attention in the Bollywood film industry as many actresses like Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma, Alia Bhatt, Kangana Ranaut and Priyanka Chopra have broken the old stereotypical notion. These divas not only proved their acting skills in female-led movies but also proved that they could bring numbers at the box office. Their movies have showcased that low-budget movies can present beautiful stories with the minimum amount of promotional activities. Here, is the list of most acclaimed female-led movies made in Bollywood that can be watched on OTT platforms.  

Kahaani

Sujoy Ghosh’s directorial showcases the life of a pregnant woman who travels to Kolkata to find her missing husband. However, things get difficult as she has no clue about her husband. The movie was made on a budget of Rs 8 crore and collected Rs 104 crore at the box office. Released in 2012, the mystery thriller stars Vidya Balan, Parambrata Chatterjee, Saswata Chatterjee, Indraneil Sengupta, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rwitobroto Mukherjee and Kharaj Mukherjee in pivotal roles. It can be watched on Prime Video.

NH10

Navdeep Singh’s directorial shows a road trip that changes the lives of a married couple. They witness an honour killing committed by a powerful gangster. However, their life gets into danger but the female protagonist fights the battle with the goons all alone. The film was made on a budget of Rs 18 crore and earned Rs 50.97 Crore at the box office worldwide. Released in 2015, the action thriller features Anushka Sharma, Neil Bhoopalam, Darshan Kumar, Deepti Naval, Ravi Jhankal and Tanya Purohit in prominent roles. The movie is streaming on JioCinema, Zee5 and Prime Video.

Raazi

Meghna Gulzar’s directorial showcases a female undercover raw agent who marries into a Pakistani family to pass valuable information to her country India. However, things get difficult as some people start doubting her. The movie was made on a budget of Rs 30-40 Crore but collected Rs 195.75 Crore at the box office. Released in 2018, the thriller movie stars Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Jaideep Ahlawat, Soni Razdan, Amruta Khanvilkar, Rajit Kapur, Arif Zakaria, Shishir Sharma and Ashwath Bhatt in key roles. The movie is streaming on Prime Video.

Queen

Vikas Bahl’s directorial revolves around the life of a heartbroken woman whose fiance broke the relationship just before the wedding. Later, the woman went alone on their pre-booked honeymoon where she discovered her true self. The movie was on a budget of Rs 23 Crore and collected Rs 95.04 Crore at the box office. Released in 2014, the comedy adventure drama features Kangana Ranaut, Mish Boyko, Lisa Haydon, Rajkummar Rao, Sabeeka Imam, Ayaan Malik, Mahesh Gahalot and Marco Canadea in prominent roles. It is streaming on JioCinema and Netflix.

Mary Kom

Omung Kumar’s directorial is a biopic based on Indian boxer Mary Kom. It shows her personal struggle with her father and husband but still, she chose to follow her passion. She continued to work even after giving birth to children and won medals for the country. The movie was based on Rs 38 Crore and it collected Rs 86.19 Crore at the box office. Released in 2014, the sports action drama stars Priyanka Chopra, Darshan Kumar, Sunil Thapa, Lin Laishram, Rajni Basumatary, Shakti Kumar and Shishir Sharma in pivotal roles. The movie is streaming on Netflix.
