Among South Indian cinema, the Malayalam film industry stands out for its wealth of high-quality films in this genre. These top Malayalam crime thrillers, including Garudan, Joseph, and Mammootty’s Kannur Squad, are currently available for streaming on platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, Hotstar, and SonyLIV.
Garudan (Prime Video)
Directed by Arun Varma and written by Midhun Manuel Thomas, it stars Suresh Gopi, Biju Menon, and Abhirami. This thriller falls under the crime genre and is available for streaming on Prime Video. The plot centers around three individuals whose lives intertwine in a gripping narrative: one as the victim, another as the seeker, and questions looming over whether the third is truly the culprit.

The neo-noir psychological thriller film directed by Nissam Basheer and produced by Mammootty under Mammootty Kampany. Malayalam-language vigilante action thriller film directed and produced by B. Unnikrishnan is based on a story and script by Udaykrishna. Th film is written by Muhammed Shafi and Rony David Raj, stars Mammootty, Azees Nedumangad, Rony David Raj, and Shabareesh Varma, with Kishore and Vijayaraghavan in supporting roles. Kannur Squad is inspired by the real-life Kannur Squad, a specialised crime investigation unit formed under former Kannur SP S. Sreejith IPS. Upon its release on September 28, 2023, Kannur Squad received critical acclaim for its performances, direction, script, cinematography, and musical score.
