Tripti Dimri, who became a household name with her powerful portrayal in the 2020 Netflix film Bulbbul, recently revealed that she was advised by many to reject the project. Speaking candidly on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, she shared how she was initially hesitant to take on the role due to the backlash she faced after Laila Majnu’s poor box-office performance.

Dimri recalled that after the release of Laila Majnu, she struggled to find work and even resorted to doing catalogue shoots to sustain herself. “When I first got elected, people were telling me, ‘Don’t do it,’” she said. “After Laila Majnu didn’t do well, I was heartbroken. Then Bulbbul came my way, and everyone was like, ‘You’ve done a theatrical release; why would you go for a smaller project?’ But the moment I heard the story from Anvita (Dutt Guptan), I knew—I didn’t care what anyone said, I was doing it.”

Despite the initial scepticism from people around her, Tripti chose to trust her instincts. Her decision ultimately proved to be the right one, as Bulbbul not only received widespread critical acclaim but also established her as a talented actress capable of handling intense and complex roles.

Tripti also discussed the challenges she faced while filming emotionally charged scenes, particularly the rape sequences with co-star Rahul Bose. “When you discuss the scene, it seems manageable, like 'It'll be fine, it'll get done,' but actually living through that moment in the scene brings a whole different level of fear. As an actor, you know you can’t escape it,” she shared.

She credited Rahul Bose and director Anvita Dutt Guptan for their support during the filming process. “Rahul was incredible. Right after the scene would cut, he would change the subject or start playing games with me, making sure my mind wasn’t dwelling on the heaviness of the moment. My director, Anvita Dutt Guptan, would sit with me after every take, apologizing and crying, saying, ‘I’m sorry for putting you through this, but it’s necessary for the story.’”

On the work front, Triptii is all set for the release of her upcoming film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and starring Rajkummar Rao. The comedy-drama is slated to hit theatres this Friday, October 11. Additionally, she has a packed schedule ahead with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, where she will be sharing screen space with Kartik Aaryan and Dhadak 2, which are both highly anticipated releases.
