One of the most highly anticipated movies of the year, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar released in cinemas today. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor together for the first time, the film has been directed by ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ filmmaker Luv Ranjan.

Taking a break from casting Kartik Aaryan and Nushratt Bharuccha, Luv Ranjan tried to charm the audiences with his quintessential rom-com magic, getting Ranbir Kapoor back in the genre. Whether to watch or skip this film, read our Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar movie review:

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Plot

The plot of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar revolves around two young and modern individuals, Ranbir Kapoor’s Rohan Arora aka Mickey and Shraddha Kapoor’s Nisha Malhotra aka Tinni. With Rohan’s best friend, Manu played by Anubhav Singh Bassi is about to get married, and so the duo jets off to a bachelor’s trip in Spain ahead of the wedding.

Boy-meets-girl, Rohan and Nisha meet, have a fling, fall in love and the la-la land comes to a halt when it's time to finally return back to India. A jaded climax of how things fall in and out of place with the families getting involved and the drama mingling along with love, shaadi and career forms the rest of the narrative of the film.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar First Half

The first half of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is all vibrant and fun. There are funny one-liners, breathtaking visuals of Spain that will give you major FOMO, gorgeous actors on the screen, and well, a feel good narrative for the most of it. But things start to get jarry and redundant after a certain point. And that’s where it hits you that the narrative of the film is just being driven by the over the top cheesy lines, countless monologues and well, a weak storyline. The story could have been crispier and the duration could have been made short by a few minutes.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Second Half

The second half of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar gets dull and boring every now and then. There is family drama and love vs career, so much so that the plot gets too predictable. You can actually guess scene by scene what will happen next, thus making it a snoozefest.

But to one’s surprise, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar does become interesting in the last 30 minutes. The film gets funnier, more emotionally intriguing and interesting and you would just wish that the half an hour would have been the tone of the film.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Cast Performances

Ranbir Kapoor in the Kartik Aaryan-verse tries to be the new guy-next-door on the block. For the ones who loved the actor in films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Bachna Ae Haseeno, this one will be a treat. He’s both the casanova as well as the heart broken guy, and makes you fall in love with both his personalities.

Shraddha Kapoor, who returns to the big screen after 3 years, looks gorgeous but sometimes underconfident on screen. The actor tries to be sassy and pull off monologues with ease, which sometimes works and sometimes falls flat.

Fan favorite Anubhav Singh Bassi, who makes his silver screen debut with Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is top-notch. The stand-up comedian turned actor is confident and his comic timing hits the bulls eye as always.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Music

The music of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar by Pritam is youthful and uplifting. Arijit Singh shines with songs including Tere Pyaar Mein and Pyaar Kya Kiya, while Shashwat Singh’s Thumka will pump in the right amount of energy into the theatres.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Direction

The direction by Luv Ranjan in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar seems to have gotten monotonous, predictable and sometimes, boring. The filmmaker tries to bring in several new elements to catch the attention of the audiences, but more often than not, his attempts fail to keep you intrigued.

There are unnecessary scenes, monologues, stories that could have been crispier, editing that could have made it more interesting amongst the flaws which aren’t something you can ignore.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Overall Verdict

For the ones who are looking for a feel good film with not much to get you thinking or hooked, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar does offer to be a good one-time watch. Same applies to Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Anubhav Singh Bassi fans, who will love seeing their favourites on the big screen in this light-hearted comedy.
