Upcoming Malayalam Movies Releasing In Theatres: The Malayalam film industry is all set to end 2024 on a high note with an exciting lineup of movies hitting the big screens. With genres ranging from fantasy thrillers to intense action dramas and light-hearted comedies, audiences are in for a cinematic treat. From Mohanlal’s much-anticipated directorial debut Barroz to Aashiq Abu’s Rifle Club, these releases promise a variety of stories and star-studded performances. As the holiday season approaches, here’s a closer look at the major Malayalam films releasing in theatres this December.
Marco
Marco is an action-packed Malayalam thriller directed by Haneef Adeni and led by Unni Mukundan in the titular role. The movie follows Marco, the younger son of the notorious Adattu family, who are deeply involved in gold smuggling. When a shocking incident disrupts the family, Marco embarks on a violent mission to uncover the truth.
The ensemble cast includes Jagadish, Siddique, Anson Paul, Yukti Thareja, Kabir Duhan Singh, and Vinayakan, among others. The film’s music is composed by Ravi Basrur, with Chandru Selvaraj handling cinematography and Shameer Muhammed on editing duties. Marco will be released on December 20, 2024, coinciding with the Christmas weekend. Alongside its Malayalam release, the film will also be dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
ED - Extra Decent
For those looking for a light-hearted entertainer, ED - Extra Decent promises to deliver laughter and fun. Directed by Aamir Pallikkal, the comedy stars Suraj Venjaramoodu and Dilna Ramakrishnan in lead roles. Jointly produced by Suraj’s Vilasini Cinemas and Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames, the film’s cinematography is helmed by Sharon Sreenivas, with editing by Sreejith Sarang. Ankit Menon has composed the music for the film.
ED - Extra Decent is set to hit theatres on December 20, 2024, offering audiences a perfect comedy escape during the festive season.
Barroz: Guardian of Treasures
Barroz marks the directorial debut of legendary actor Mohanlal and is one of the most awaited Malayalam releases this year. A fantasy-thriller rooted in Portuguese culture, the movie tells the story of Barroz, a spirit guardian who has protected a hidden treasure for over 400 years. The treasure is meant for the descendants of Vasco da Gama, and the film brings alive a world of fantasy and adventure.
Mohanlal plays the titular role of Barroz, alongside an international ensemble cast featuring Maya Rao West, Cesar Lorente Raton, Ignacio Mateos, and Kallirroi Tziafeta. The film is based on a novel by Jijo Punnoose and is packed with stunning visuals and 3D experiences that are sure to captivate audiences of all ages.
Barroz is scheduled for release on December 25, 2024, making it a perfect Christmas treat for fans.
Rifle Club
Rifle Club is an action-packed drama directed by acclaimed filmmaker Aashiq Abu. Featuring Dileesh Pothan, Anurag Kashyap, and Vani Vishwanath in pivotal roles, the movie boasts a gripping storyline and powerful performances. The screenplay is a collaborative effort by Syam Pushkaran, Dileesh Karunakaran, Suhas, and Sharfu, while the music is composed by Rex Vijayan. Interestingly, Aashiq Abu also takes on the role of cinematographer for the film.
Rifle Club is set to release on December 19, 2024, just in time to kick off the holiday movie season.
