5 Upcoming Telugu Mythological Movies: The South cinema landscape witnessed a mix of memorable larger-than-life productions. While some high-budget endeavors with conventional storylines faced setbacks, filmmakers found themselves needing to adapt to a post-pandemic audience hungry for fresh narratives that transcend language barriers. The triumph of movies such as Kantara, Karthikeya 2, and HanuMan illustrates that films centered around Indian mythology have the potential to achieve tremendous success at the box office. As anticipation for films such as builds for Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa 2, a diverse array of films is poised to capture nationwide attention.

Take a look:

Kalki 2898 AD

Upcoming epic science fiction action film set in the year 2898 AD, directed by Nag, stars Prabhas in the titular role, alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani. The film boasts a production budget of Rs 600 crore (US$75 million), making it the most expensive Indian film ever made. Furthermore, the title itself hints at the film's basis in the lore of Kalyug and the Kalki avatar. Recently, the makers revealed that Amitabh Bachchan will portray Ashwatthama, the immortal and cursed son of Dronacharya.

Pushpa 2: The Rule

Pushpa 2: The Rule is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language action drama, directed and written by Sukumar under his Sukumar Writings banner. Produced by Naveen Yerneni and Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers, the film stars Allu Arjun in the lead role, alongside Fahadh Faasil, Rashmika Mandanna, Dhananjay, Rao Ramesh, Sunil, and Anasuya Bharadwaj. Kannappa

Telugu-language fantasy drama film directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, revolves around Kannappa, a devout follower of the Hindu deity Shiva. Produced by Mohan Babu under his banners AVA Entertainment and 24 Frames Factory, the film stars Vishnu Manchu in the lead role. Vishnu Manchu also penned the screenplay, based on a story developed by Paruchuri Gopala Krishna, G. Nageswara Reddy, Eshwar Reddy, and Thota Prasadnaidu. Stephen Devassy and Mani Sharma are composing the original score and songs for the film. Initially shot in Telugu, Kannappa is set to be dubbed and released in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and English.

Kubera

In the initial glimpse of his 51st film, Kubera, Tamil actor Dhanush exudes a composed yet unsettling presence. Directed by Sekhar Kammula, Kubera also features Nagarjuna Akkineni, Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarbh. In Kubera, renowned as the wealthiest deity, director Sekhar Kammula contrasts this with Dhanush's portrayal, where he sports a smile but appears disheveled, with unkempt long hair and a beard, clad in ragged attire. In the backdrop, a painting depicts Lord Shiva receiving alms from Goddess Annapurna. Additionally, the makers unveiled a motion poster featuring music by Devi Sri Prasad.

Adhira

Adhira appears to be centered around Lord Indra, as suggested by promotional materials. Announced in 2022, the film introduces the debutant clad in a hooded cloak, wielding a sword reminiscent of a spine, amidst lightning strikes. Directed by Prasanth Varma, Adhira is a superhero film starring Kalyan Dasari in the titular role. The music is composed by Gowrahari, cinematography is handled by Shivendra, and editing is done by Srikanth Patnaik R.
