Varun Dhawan starrer Baby John is creating waves even before its release, with a special glimpse of the film showcased at the Big Cine Expo 2024 in Mumbai. Directed by Kalees and produced by Jio Studios, Cine1 Studios and A for Apple Productions, the film promises to present Varun in an out-and-out massy avatar. The exclusive footage, which has been making rounds on social media, hints at an action-packed entertainer set to hit cinemas this Christmas on December 25, 2024.
Film critic Taran Adarsh shared his thoughts on the sneak peek, describing the film as “simply OUTSTANDING” and praising Atlee’s directorial skills, which were recently proven in Jawan. Adarsh also revealed that superstar Salman Khan will be shooting his cameo role in the movie this weekend, much to the excitement of his fans. “After all, who can doubt Atlee’s sharp skills after Jawan?” Adarsh noted, emphasizing his belief that the collaboration between Atlee, the film’s producers Jyoti Deshpande, Priya Atlee, and Murad Khetani, and director Kalees will be a winning formula for Baby John.

The footage from Baby John showcased Varun Dhawan in two distinct looks. One as a clean-cut cop, embodying a sophisticated persona and another where he transforms into a lungi-clad hero, taking on goons in a rugged style reminiscent of South Indian cinema. A scene featuring Varun's character playfully flirting with the heroine, played by Keerthy Suresh, stood out for its light-heartedness and marked contrast to the otherwise high-octane narrative.

The story behind the title Baby John is both unique and endearing. A report by Movie Talkies.com reveals that Varun’s character, a single father, is referred to as 'Baby' by his daughter. The film pivots around this affectionate nickname, with one scene highlighting Varun’s massy entry as he fights off goons who threaten his child. This sequence alone is enough to stir anticipation among the audience and the thunderous background score adds a layer of intensity, making it one of the standout elements in the promo.
Atlee, who was present at the screening with his wife Priya Atlee, shared more insights into the film. He mentioned that Baby John is an official adaptation of Theri but with significant changes to cater to a wider Hindi audience. “Our film mainly talks about a sensitive issue—women’s safety and rape. This is my first Hindi film as a producer, so my main focus is single-screen audiences,” Atlee explained at the event as per Movie Talkies.com.
With a stellar supporting cast that includes Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav and Jackie Shroff, Baby John is expected to be a major box-office draw. Adding to the excitement is Salman Khan’s cameo appearance, which will undoubtedly be a treat for his fans, especially with the film releasing just days before his birthday on December 27.
