In a tragic loss for the Odia film industry, veteran actor Uttam Mohanty passed away on Thursday night at a private hospital in Delhi, where he was undergoing treatment. At the age of 66, Mohanty left behind a legacy of unforgettable performances that captivated audiences for decades. His family confirmed the news of his demise, leaving fans and fellow actors in a state of shock and mourning.
Throughout his illustrious career, Uttam Mohanty had become a household name in Odisha, known for his incredible talent, versatility and dedication to his craft.
Taking to X, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, "I am deeply saddened to know about the demise of Odisha's popular actor Uttam Mohanty. His departure has created a huge void in the Odia art field. The impression he left in the Odia cinema will always keep him in the hearts of the audience. I pray for the eternal peace of his soul and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family."

Uttam Mohanty's acting career spanned over four decades, commencing with his debut in the Odia film Abhimaan in 1977. He went on to leave an indelible mark on the Odia film industry, working in over 130 films. Some of his most iconic performances were in films like Nijhum Ratira Sathi (1979), Phula Chandana (1982), Jhiati Sita Pari (1983) and Danda Balunga (1984), which showcased his remarkable talent and versatility. Mohanty's acting prowess also transcended regional boundaries, as he worked in around 30 Bengali films and even made his mark in Hindi cinema with the movie Naya Zaher.
Additionally, he had a notable presence on television, featuring in several TV serials, including Sara Akasha. Throughout his career, Mohanty demonstrated his incredible range and adaptability, cementing his status as a beloved and respected figure in the Odia film industry.
