Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja is one of the biggest regional blockbuster movies of 2024. The action thriller also received praise from the audience for its powerful storyline and performances. Released in theatres in June, the movie later made its digital debut on Netflix. The film which made waves since its announcement has now created a history. Maharaja became the most-viewed Indian movie on Netflix in 2024. The movie was always on the trending list of the OTT platform. Maharaja premiered on 12th July and gained immense popularity among the Hindi movie watchers as well.
As per reports, Maharaja has 18.6 million views on Netflix which surpasses the total viewership of Crew. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon starrer gained 17.9 million views on the OTT platform. Another movie added to the list of the most viewed Indian films on Netflix is Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies which gained 17.1 million views. Followed by Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan and Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter with 14.8 and 14 million views respectively.

Coming back to Maharaja, Vijay Sethupathi starrer delved into the life of a barber who seeks vengeance after his home is burglarized. He later told police about ‘Lakshmi’ which was taken from him. It created confusion that ‘Lakshmi’ is an object or a person. The movie marked the 50th film of Vijay Sethupathi. Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, the movie also stars Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Divya Bharathi, Abhirami, Sachana Namidass and Singampuli in prominent roles. Maharaja was released in theatres on 14th June. As per Sacnilk, the worldwide collection of Maharaja is Rs 104.84 Crore. The India net collection of the Tamil movie stands at Rs 71.26 Crore.
