The release of Vishnu Manchu’s highly anticipated mythological drama Kannappa has been postponed from its original date of April 25. The makers have decided to delay the film to refine a crucial VFX-heavy sequence, ensuring the best cinematic experience for viewers.
On Saturday, Vishnu Manchu took to social media to share the news, apologizing for the wait and assuring fans that the extra time would be worth it. He emphasized that Kannappa is a tribute to Lord Shiva’s greatest devotee and that the team is working tirelessly to perfect the film.
"Bringing Kannappa to life has been an incredible journey, and we are committed to delivering a cinematic spectacle that meets the highest standards. To ensure this, we need a few more weeks to perfect a key episode requiring extensive VFX work," Vishnu wrote in a heartfelt note. He added that while the delay is unfortunate, the team wants to present the film in the best possible way. A new release date will be announced soon.

Inspired by the legendary tale of Bhakta Kannappa, the film follows Thinnadu, a fearless warrior who undergoes a transformation to become a devoted follower of Lord Shiva. Vishnu Manchu plays the titular role, while Akshay Kumar portrays Lord Shiva, and Kajal Aggarwal plays Goddess Parvati. Mohanlal takes on the role of Kirata, and Prabhas makes a powerful appearance as Rudra.
Produced by M. Mohan Babu, Kannappa was screened at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The teaser, released earlier in March, gave audiences a glimpse into the visually grand retelling of Thinnadu’s journey of faith and devotion. Fans will have to wait a little longer for the film, but the team promises that the final result will be worth it.
