Popular Bollywood singer Jasleen Royal had an opening act at Coldplay’s Mumbai concert. Her performance was highly criticised on social media and renowned filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri was one of them. Sharing his opinion on Jasleen’s performance at the concert, Agnihotri called her an ‘auto-tuned and Instagram-generated singer’. He even went on to say that the audience was more ‘sureela’ (melodious) than her. He also shared a video of Jasleen’s performance on X and stressed to the fact that some celebrities get big opportunities due to their followers counts on social media rather than their raw talent.
Vivek Agnihotri tweeted, “The audience is more sureela than these auto-tuned, Instagram-generated singers. Imagine if she didn’t have followers on Instagram, would anyone have even allowed her to audition for a mohalla singing contest? Follower count over talent is the new norm.”
His followers also shared their views on the same matter. A user said, “She got an opportunity based on her status others are still waiting.” Another user wrote, “She is singing? Is that how she sings? Terrible.” A tweet read, “Who is she, btw? Pardon my ignorance.” Another user said, “Who’s this and why there’s so much crowd?.” A comment read, “These people make me realize the value of @Real_SonuNigam.”

On the other hand, singer Antara Mitra also criticised Jasleen’s performance on her Instagram stories. She wrote, “The brightest idea was this representation of Indian music scene for Coldplay. I am shamelessly calling this out ! Because someone from the same field should! I have an iron gut so I am doing it! Please all you bigges out there taking decisions of this level! My only request is please put music on top and then your number game.”
Coldplay performed in three concerts in Mumbai on January 18, 19 and 21. The first three concerts were held at DY Patil Stadium. They will also perform at Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26. Their last Ahmedabad concert on January 26 will also be streaming on Disney + Hotstar.
