Vivek Oberoi recently opened up about a terrifying accident that occurred on the sets of Subhash Ghai's period drama Kisna. The film, which has now completed 20 years, holds a special yet haunting place in the actor's memories. In a conversation with Times Now, Oberoi shared the details of the incident and reflected on his journey working with the legendary filmmaker.
Recalling the incident, Vivek Oberoi described the accident as "ghastly." He said, "Luckily, it happened on the last day of my schedule for Kisna. The whole carriage fell on me, and I was dragged by the horse. If that iron chariot had landed on my head, I wouldn’t have survived. It was terrifying."
Oberoi revealed that the experience left him shaken and he believed he was cursed with bad luck. "I was warned about black magic and buri nazar (evil eye). Mr. Subhash Ghai even arranged a special pooja for me, and many people prayed for my recovery. It was a surreal experience," he added. Despite doctors prescribing three weeks of bed rest, Oberoi managed to recover in just eight days, showcasing his resilience. "I hate being confined to bed. I’m unbreakable," he stated confidently.
Reflecting on the initial days of Kisna, Oberoi admitted he was hesitant about taking on the role. "When Mr. Ghai narrated the script, I was stunned. I told him, ‘I think you got the wrong guy. I don’t think I can do this.’ The character’s complexity scared me," he shared. However, Subhash Ghai reassured him, saying, "Kara denge" (We’ll make it happen), and his encouragement gave Oberoi the confidence to embrace the role.
Vivek Oberoi credited Subhash Ghai for making the journey of Kisna unforgettable. "This was the first film where I completely let go. I felt safe with Mr. Ghai. He worked out every detail of my character and guided me through every step. It felt like the performance wasn’t mine but his," Oberoi remarked.
The actor also praised Ghai's dedication and passion for filmmaking. "Mr. Ghai has been making iconic films for over 30 years, yet he works with the enthusiasm of a first-time director. During Kisna, he was always the first to arrive on set, ready to give his all. His passion inspired me and helped me grow as an actor," he said.
Despite the challenges, Kisna remains a significant milestone in Vivek Oberoi’s career. The actor cherishes the bond he shared with Subhash Ghai and the lessons he learned during the film’s production. "It was an interesting journey, one that taught me a lot about myself and my craft," Oberoi concluded.
