BTS ARMY Day 2024: BTS is one of the most popular Kpop groups in the world and has a massive fan following. Their fans call themselves BTS ARMY and it has been registered as their official fandom named. On July 9, BTS and their fans celebrated BTS ARMY day as it was the first time the group addressed their fans as 'ARMY'. But do you know how BTS gave the name 'ARMY' to fans and what the term stands for.

What Is BTS ARMY Day?

For the unversed, ARMY stands for 'Adorable Representative MC For Youth'. ARMY also stands for military, whereas, BTS is known as the armour, indicating how the group and their fans stand for each other.

On July 9, fans and BTS celebrate BTS ARMY day as it was the first time the group used the term army for their fandom. The fandom was almost named 'Bells' but RM revealed he was relieved that they did not go with it.

While speaking at The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon in 2021, RM said, "When you say BTS, it stands for ‘bangtan’ in Korean, not ‘behind-the scenes.’ I mean, for your information, It stands for ‘bangtan,’ and when you say ‘bell’ in Korean, it sounds like ‘bang wool.’ It starts with the same word, ‘bang’. So when we think of the fan name, someone brings up the idea, like, ‘What about the bell thing?’ Everybody rings their bells and [we’re] like, ‘Make some noise!’ and the bells are like ‘ring-a-ling-a-ling.’ But thank God that (it changed), ARMY is so much better.”

Jhope penned a sweet note for fans on BTS ARMY day and wrote, "The one who made us more like ourselves, ARMY everyone~!! Thank you for existing!!" He acknowledged the significance of ARMY Day, wishing fans a happy birthday and recognizing their unwavering support. Our ARMYs who have made us more like us!! Thank you for existing!! I will come see you soon with good health~!! I love you."

The group also celebrated its 11th debut anniversary in June 2024. Jin celebrated his return from the military with BTS ARMY and organised a grand event. There was also a hug session with Jin, where he gave 1000 free hugs to BTS ARMY. While speaking at the event, Jin said, "I need to talk about FESTA. I gave a good idea, but it received a lot of criticism. I took a look at it so let me try to explain. I took a draft with me from the start. Since I am in charge of the FESTA by myself this time, I contacted the organizer around October, November last year. But they were honest and said they already planned everything so there wasn’t much left to do. They asked me if I had any ideas. I said I wanted to do a free hug event, but they said no."

BTS has seven members: RM, Jhope, Suga, Jimin, Jin, V and Jungkook.
