It was in 1993 when 'Gadar 2' star Sunny Deol had a fallout with Shah Rukh Khan due to Yash Chopra’s 'Darr', in which both played quintessential roles. While Sunny essayed the role of hero, SRK played an anti-hero, but after the movie’s release, the duo didn’t talk to each other for over 16 years. Sunny was angry with the way his character was depicted in the movie while Rahul Mehra, played by SRK, was able to dominate its plot.

Later, in an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Deol recounted the disagreements he had with Yash Chopra on the sets of Darr. He opened up and said, “I had a heated discussion with Yash Chopra regarding that scene. I tried explaining that I am a commando officer in the film. My character is an expert and fit, then how can this boy beat me easily? He can beat me if I can’t see him. If he can stab me while I am looking at him, then I won’t be called a commando.”

Sunny Deol Ripped His Pants In Anger

The actor ripped off his trousers in rage as a result of the director's refusal to listen to Sunny's objections. “Soon, out of anger, I didn’t even realise that I had ripped my pants with my hands,” he said. The actors didn’t speak for 16 years after the film was released, but Sunny said that wasn’t deliberate. “It’s not that I didn’t talk but I just cut myself off and I anyway don’t socialise much. So we never met, toh baat karne ki baat he nahi hai,” he noted.

Deol told Filmfare, “One day in Switzerland, I was so angry that when I stuffed my hands into the pockets, I ripped the jeans I was wearing. I'll never work with Yash Chopra again. He isn't a man of his word. I don't have good memories about him, he betrayed my faith in him.”

About Darr

The movie Darr was released on December 24, 1993, over the Christmas holiday weekend. It was a huge commercial success, a box office smash, the third-highest grossing Indian movie of the year in India, and the highest-earning Indian movie of the year internationally. When it was first released, the film garnered high marks from critics and viewers alike for its directing, writing, soundtrack, cinematography, costumes, and performances by the actors, particularly Chawla and Khan.
