Who was Amar Singh Chamkila? Diljit Dosanjh, Parineeti Chopra and filmmaker Imtiaz Ali have teamed up for the much-anticipated biopic of the late Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila. Also known as the 'Elvis Of Punjab', Amar Singh Chamkila is often regarded as one of the best live stage performers in Punjab. The first look of 'Amar Singh Chamkila' was unveiled recently and the movie will release on Netflix in 2024.
Who was Amar Singh Chamkila?
Amar Singh Chamkila, born on July 21, 1960, was one of the most popular singers in Punjab and rose to fame with his song 'Takue Te Takua'. Since his childhood, he was talented in singing and developed an interest in music and mastered the dhol and harmonium.
He married twice and has three children. He was first married to Gurmail Kaur, with whom he has two daughters Amandeep Kaur and Kamaldeep Kaur. Kamaldep also went on to become a singer and published CDs of her own, some of which had lyrics written by her father.

After separating from his first wife, Amar Singh Chamkila married Amarjot Kaur, with whom he had a son, Jaiman Chamkila. Amarjot Kaur was Chamkila's singing partner as well and had left her first marriage to follow the dream of becoming a singer.
Amar Singh Chamkila Death:
On March 8, 1988, at approximately 2 PM, both Chamkila and Amarjot were gunned down in Mehsampur, Punjab and shot dead by a group of unidentified group of young boys.
