Robert Duvall Death News: Hollywood legend Robert Duvall has died at the age of 95. The Oscar-winning actor passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, according to a statement shared by his wife, Luciana.
In a Facebook post on Monday morning, Luciana confirmed the news. She wrote, "Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort." She added, "His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented." Luciana also asked for privacy for the family as they remember and celebrate his life.
Who Was Robert Duvall?
Robert Duvall had a career that lasted more than 70 years. He became one of the most respected actors in Hollywood, known for his calm screen presence and powerful performances. He starred in several major films including The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, Network and The Natural. Over the years, he built a reputation for choosing strong, character-driven roles.
In 1983, Duvall won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Tender Mercies, where he played a troubled former country music star. The role remains one of the most praised performances of his career.
Hollywood Mourns The Loss Of A Legend
Director Francis Ford Coppola, who worked with Duvall on several films, paid tribute on Instagram. He wrote, "What a blow to learn of the loss of Robert Duvall. Such a great actor and such an essential part of American Zoetrope from its beginning: ‘The Rain People,’ ‘The Conversation,’ ‘The Godfather,’ ‘The Godfather Part II,’ ‘Apocalypse Now,’ ‘THX 1138,’ ‘Assassination Tango.'" Coppola collaborated with Duvall on seven films, starting with The Rain People in 1969 and continuing through the decades.
Actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, who worked with Duvall in The Godfather Part II, also shared their condolences. Pacino said, "It was an honor to have worked with Robert Duvall. He was a born actor as they say, his connection with it, his understanding and his phenomenal gift will always be remembered. I will miss him." De Niro wrote, "God bless Bobby. I hope I can live till I’m 95. May he rest in peace."
Viola Davis, who acted alongside Duvall in Widows, posted on Instagram, "It was an honor." She added, "You were a giant… an icon… Greatness never dies. It stays… as a gift. Rest well, sir. Your name will be spoken… May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."
Michael Keaton also paid tribute, writing, "Another friend goes down. Acted with and became friends. Shared a great afternoon on my front porch talking about horses. He was greatness personified as an actor. RIP RD."
