So, why not celebrate the women, who single-handedly brought up their kids irrespective of their status and circumstances in life. As we are celebrating the day, we should not miss giving a special mention to the single mothers. Here, we brought you the list of single mothers of the Bollywood industry, who inspired several women in the country to become strong and independent while breaking the patriarchal momentum.  

Neena Gupta  

The actress gave birth to her child Masaba Gupta in 1989 out of marriage. She was in a relationship with Viv Richards, who is the father of Masaba. The veteran actress was the single mother for Masaba, who is a renowned designer now. Neena never shied away from speaking about her struggles and journey to parent her child independently. Until 2008, she was a single mother as Neena Gupta got married to Vivek Mehra in the same year.



Sushmita Sen

The actress inspires several women in the country, who showcased that a woman can be single and become a mother as well. She won the title of Miss Universe at the age of 18 in 1994. Soon, she started doing movies in Bollywood and established herself as a successful actress in the industry. At the age of 24, she adopted her first girl child, Renee Sen, in 2000. Sushmita then adopted another daughter named Alisah in 2010. She is now happily a mother of two children. The 49-year-old actress is still unmarried. 

Sakshi Tanwar

The Bollywood and Television actress is a single mother of an adopted girl child. She adopted a 9-month-old baby in 2018. The 52-year-old actress has never been married. Sakshi has worked in movies like Dangal, Sharmajee Ki Beti and Mohalla Assi to name a few.


Malaika Arora

The popular Bollywood celebrity was married to Arbaaz Khan for 19 years. The couple gave birth to a boy child named Arhaan Khan. But after Malaika’s separation from Arbaaz, she has been a single mother to their only child.  

Ektaa Kapoor

The popular Bollywood and Television producer has set a new bar in the society by having a child through surrogacy. She didn’t marry, but her wish to become a mother was fulfilled when she welcomed a son, named Ravie Kapoor, in 2019. 

Amrita Singh

The veteran actress was married to Saif Ali Khan for 13 years until they got separated in 2004. They gave birth to two children Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Since 2004, Amrita has been a single mother.  

Karisma Kapoor

The 90s Bollywood diva was married to businessman Sunjay Kapur for 13 years. The former couple welcomed their two children daughter Samaira and son Kiaan in 2005 and 2010 respectively. After Karisma’s divorce, she has been a proud single parent. 

Pooja Bedi

The actress has been a single mother since she got divorced to Farhan Furniturewala in 2003. She had a daughter, Alaya F and son Omar Furniturewalla, with Farhan. She has been a single mother to both her children. 

Shweta Tiwari

The Singham Again actress had two failed marriages and has children from her ex-husbands. But the actress has always motivated women to be strong and independent. She was vocal about being a single mother to her children Palak Tiwari and Reyansh Kohli. 

Poonam Dhillon

The Veteran actress was earlier married to Bollywood producer Ashok Thakeria. After almost a decade of mariage, Dhillon got separated from her husband. Since then she has been a single to her children Paloma Thakeria and Anmol Thakeria.
