Smita Srivastava, Mumbai Desk: Ravi Uddhavar, who directed the Sridevi starrer Mom, has now made a pure action film called Yudhra. In action films, an incident from the hero's past or present is fabricated to make him fight the villain. In the midst of this drama, aspects like romance, dance, song, deception, corruption in the police and revenge are included along with a lot of action. The story of Yudhra, written by Sridhar Raghavan, has all these spices. However, these spices have become boring because there are too many and too few at some places.

Yudhra Plot

The story begins with Yudhra (Siddhant Chaturvedi) getting shot on a ship. From there, the layers of his past start to unfold. His honest father and mother, who work in the Narcotics Bureau, die in an accident. His father's close friend and colleague Karthik Rathod (Gajraj Rao) raises him. His father's close friend Rehman Siddiqui (Ram Kapoor) treats Yudhra like a son. Rehman's daughter Nikhat (Malvika Mohanan) and Yudhra are friends since childhood.

Yudhra has had a very short temper since childhood. He loses his temper when he gets angry. Seeing Yudhra's habit of playing with danger, Rehman gets him admitted to National Cadet Trainee Academy (NCTA) in Pune to channelize his anger. Nikhat is studying medicine in Pune itself. Yudhra is court-martialed due to an incident. Rehman tells Yudhra that his parents were not killed in an accident but as part of a conspiracy.

Even then Yudhra does not ask anything about their killers. Well, to complete his father's unfinished mission of eliminating the drug mafia, Rehman tells him a way to get close to the drug mafia Feroz (Raj Arjun) who runs the country's largest network in jail. Yudhra succeeds in his mission. After coming out of jail, Yudhra wins the trust of Feroz by removing his enemy from his path. Feroz's son Shafiq (Raghav Juyal) does not like Yudhra.

Yudhra gives information about a very large drug consignment to Rehman. After that, he loses contact with Rehman. From there the story comes to the present. How does Yudhra survive? What is the reason for Rehman's disappearance? What is the connection of Feroz with Yudhra's past? Who is the real killer of Yudhra's parents? What is the truth about Karthik? Answers to many such questions will be found in the film.

Yudhra Review

Yudhra, directed by Ravi Uddhavar, has a lot of scattered stories. The story moves forward very fast from the beginning, but you do not feel connected to the characters. Why does Yudhra not try to know about his parents even once? The scene of Yudhra killing drug mafia Sikandar is childish. Firoz is not as dangerous as he is shown to be. The scenes of confrontation between Firoz and Yudhra are not impressive enough to make you keep staring at them.

Gajraj's character does not surprise in the end but leaves many questions unanswered. It is not clear why Shafiq dislikes Yudhra. In one scene, the hacker says that it is impossible to open the password, which is funny. The story behind Yudhra's court martial is very weak. Nikhat and Yudhra's love story has also not been captivating.

Since this is a commercial masala film, do not try to find any logic in the story. The songs add to the story but here they seem forced. The dialogues of the film are also not effective. But yes, the action of the film is superb.

Yudhra: Cast Performance

Yudhra Rating: /5

Siddhant Chaturvedi, who has appeared in an action avatar for the first time, has portrayed the angry nature of Yudhra very well. He looks good while doing action. This is the first purely commercial Hindi film of South Indian actress Malavika Mohanan. However, before this she has garnered praise for her performance in Majid Majidi's film Beyond the Clouds.

Here, she impresses in the scenes of romance, mutual conflict, love making and a little action in her part. Ram Kapoor is the perfect casting for his character. Raj Arjun's character in the role of Firoz needed to be made terrifying. Raghav, who has again played a negative role after the film Kill, leaves an impact in this role. Gajraj in the role of Karthik is ordinary. There was a need to build his character in a better way. The writer-director has not been able to make proper use of Shilpa Shukla's talent.

The cinematography of the film is excellent. In the beginning, the story goes to cities like Mumbai, Pune, after which the drug angle comes in and then it goes to Shanghai, Portugal. During that time, many beautiful locations are seen. The songs and music of the film are not remembered after leaving the cinema hall.
