An incredible sight unfolded in Gurugram (the Cyber City) on Thursday, as more than 100,000 volunteers took to the streets to help fix the city's failing sanitation system. The massive clean-up campaign was launched by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who praised the people's commitment to a clean Gurugram.

This huge effort was organised because the city's cleaning system had been crumbling. The private agencies responsible for sanitation were not providing resources and vehicles on time, causing the situation to worsen over the past few months. City officials have been working to improve things for the last month.

The theme of the campaign is, 'Every neighborhood, every street, every house - the identity of a clean Haryana.' The goal isn't just to clean the city for one day, but to make cleanliness a permanent part of people's daily routines and lifestyle.

Thousands of volunteers from major religious organisations like Radha Soami Satsang Beas, Sant Nirankari Mission and Dera Sacha Sauda, along with social groups and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), traveled to Gurugram to help. Volunteers came from different districts in Haryana and even from as far as Punjab.

To make the campaign a success, volunteers started gathering on Wednesday night, while others arrived in the morning on private buses. They took charge of cleaning at 46 designated spots across the city's 36 wards. Local residents also played a big part and enthusiastically volunteered.

This initiative is especially important because the homes in Gurugram alone produce around 1,200 tonnes of garbage every single day, which is a huge challenge for the city.
