In a significant push to strengthen regional connectivity, the Central government is set to commence construction of the much-awaited Delhi–Karnal Rapid Rail project. The 129-km high-speed corridor will see 45 per cent of the construction cost in Haryana borne by the state government, while the remaining 55 per cent will be funded by the Centre.
According to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the project, dubbed the Namo Bharat Corridor, will originate from Jangpura in Delhi and pass through Sarai Kale Khan, Kashmiri Gate ISBT, and Alipur before reaching Kundli. From there, the elevated route will extend along National Highway-44 towards Yamuna, with most of the corridor designed as an elevated track. The Panipat stretch, however, is planned to run underground.
A new Rapid Rail station will also be developed near Kundli metro station in Sonipat, connected through a foot overbridge across the highway. Similar facilities may be constructed at other locations based on passenger needs.
The project will include 13 stations, spanning Kundli in Sonipat, Bahalgarh, Murthal Chowk, Ganaur, Samalkha, Panipat (multiple points including near Siwah bus stand, Sector-18, and Gohana crossing), Gharaunda, Madhuban, and Karnal (Sector-7 DC office area and the new bus stand).
Alongside the transport corridor, the government also plans to develop workspaces along the National Highway near Sonipat, Panipat, and Karnal, with priority given to government buildings.
