Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar held a review meeting on Monday in the auditorium of the Mini Secretariat to assess the preparations made so far for controlling stray dogs in the district. The meeting included a detailed discussion on controlling stray dogs, their humane management, the implementation of safety measures, and departmental coordination.
A special focus was placed on the strict implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme, removing dogs from areas such as schools, hospitals, playgrounds, bus stands and railway stations, ensuring their timely sterilisation, and sending them to safe shelter homes. It was reported during the meeting that feeding spots have been identified at several locations, with signboards to be installed soon.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner instructed all concerned departments to prepare a priority list of all sensitive locations in the district, such as schools, hospitals, bus stands, railway stations, and playgrounds. A surveillance system, safety measures, and a quick response mechanism are to be implemented at these sites.
The Chief Medical Officer was instructed to ensure an adequate stock of anti-rabies vaccine is available in all government and private hospitals, so that immediate medical assistance can be provided in any dog bite incident. All municipal bodies were directed to develop separate shelter sheds for dogs to ensure both the humane protection of the animals and the convenience of citizens.
The Deputy Commissioner stated clearly that this campaign is not merely an administrative process but an effort to ensure the safety and health of citizens. He instructed the departments to conduct regular inspections, take coordinated action, and submit timely progress reports.
Preetpal, Joint Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, informed the meeting that the responsibility for managing stray dogs has been assigned to two agencies.
Key Highlights:
-In the corporation area, 78 feeding spots have been identified, where appropriate signboards are being installed.
-A shelter home has been prepared in Naurangpur.
-A new shelter on one acre of land is proposed in Nainwal village.
-In the Manesar area, 20 feeding points have been designated.
-16 feeding spots have been identified in the Farrukhnagar Municipality, 15 in the Sohna Municipal Council, and 30 in the Pataudi-Jatoli Mandi Municipal Council.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed NHAI and PWD officials to prepare a list of all such stretches in the district where stray animals frequently gather, so that necessary steps can be taken from a road safety perspective.
ADC Vatsal Vashisht, GM Roadways Bharat Bhushan Gogia, Joint Commissioner of Manesar Corporation Lokesh Yadav, CTM Sapna Yadav, and officials from other concerned departments were present at the meeting.
