In a dramatic turn of events late Wednesday night, the Gurugram Police rescued a young woman from her residence in Sector 9 after she alleged that her parents were holding her captive to force her into an unwanted marriage. The woman, who is the daughter of a local BJP councillor, was scheduled to be married today, December 4.
The Rescue Operation
The Sector 9 police acted swiftly after receiving a distress email from the victim. The complaint, which was also sent to the Commissioner of Police (CP), the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), the Women's Commission, and the Chief Minister, detailed her confinement and the imminent threat to her safety. Following the rescue, the police moved the woman to a safe house for her protection.
Allegations Of Captivity And Coercion
According to the complaint, the woman had explicitly informed her parents of her refusal to marry the man they had chosen from Daultabad. Despite her objections, the family proceeded with the wedding preparations.
Confinement: The woman alleged that when she resisted, she was locked in a room and her mobile phone was confiscated to cut off her communication with the outside world.
Threats: She stated that her life was under threat from her own family due to her refusal to comply.
Background And Motive
The complainant is highly qualified, holding MBA, B.Ed, and M.Ed degrees. She revealed to the authorities that she has been in a relationship with a friend for the past 15 years and wishes to marry him, a decision her family reportedly opposed.
Police Action
An FIR has been registered against the woman's parents and other family members involved. The police have initiated a detailed investigation into the allegations of wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation.
Official Statement
"We received a complaint via email regarding a woman being held captive to force a marriage against her will. A team was immediately dispatched, and the victim was rescued from her Sector 9 residence on Wednesday night. She has been moved to a safe location, and legal action has been initiated," a police official confirmed.
