The proposed terminal at the Sector 10 city bus depot will have direct connectivity with the metro. As soon as passengers alight from the metro, city buses will be available to take them to their respective sectors or colonies. Additionally, it will become easier for passengers traveling by bus to reach the metro.

To achieve this, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has begun preparations to construct a terminal within the Sector 10 city bus depot premises. Rs 32.42 crore will be spent on the terminal's construction. Prior to this, a charging station for electric buses has already been established here. Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) is expected to receive one hundred new electric buses soon.

Currently, 150 CNG-based low-floor buses are being operated in the city from the Sector 10 and Sector 54 bus depots. The public transport system will be strengthened with the inclusion of electric buses into the fleet. GMDA is also constructing three new bus depots to enhance passenger convenience.

Electric Depot To Be Ready By December, Charging Area Prepared

GMDA is constructing an electric bus depot in Sector 48, which is expected to be ready by December. The construction work for the administrative building, workshop, has been completed, and finishing tasks like painting will now be undertaken. The construction of this electric depot will cost Rs 19.20 crore. Notably, the charging area within this depot has already been built, where 25 buses can be charged simultaneously.

DPR For Sector 103 Bus Depot Is Being Prepared

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed city bus depot on a seven-acre plot in Sector 103 is being prepared. According to officials, GMDA has acquired the land, and the tender process for the depot's construction will begin once the DPR is finalised.

Bus Depot To Be Built In Sector 65 As Well

A bus depot will also be constructed in Sector 65 to ensure that residents in every corner of the city have access to city bus services. For this, 6.5 acres of land have been identified. The construction of this depot will benefit residents of Badshahpur, Golf Course Extension, Ghata, Faridabad Road, Kadarpur, and surrounding areas.

System Reliant On Auto-Rickshaws And Cabs

Many announcements and claims have been made to strengthen the public transport system, but even after a decade, the situation has not changed. Remote villages are still waiting for buses, while the transport system of the "Cyber City," with its population of 4 million, remains dependent on auto-rickshaws and cabs. As Gurugram is a major hub for IT and industry, thousands of professionals commute within the city daily.

While buses are operated on routes from Gurugram to Manesar and from the city to Udyog Vihar, Cyber Hub, and the bus stand area, there is a need to increase their frequency due to the high number of passengers. The lack of timely bus services forces commuters to rely on cabs, auto-rickshaws, or their personal cars.
