Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss railway services in Uttarakhand. On the Chief Minister's request, the Railway Minister announced that the Dehradun and Haridwar railway stations will be developed as 'model railway stations'. Additionally, the old Rishikesh railway station will be completely closed, and all train operations will be conducted from the Yog Nagari railway station. The Railway Minister also agreed to the Chief Minister's request to increase the frequency of the weekly Dehradun-Tanakpur train to three times a week.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Dhami requested that the central government bear the entire expenditure for the Haridwar-Dehradun rail line doubling project. The Railway Minister stated that a decision on this would be taken after an examination of the proposal.
The Chief Minister also urged the Railway Minister to consider the possibility of connecting the Almora and Someshwar regions with the Tanakpur-Bageshwar rail project and to include a provision for a road to be built alongside the tunnel.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister proposed that the old Rishikesh railway station be completely shut down and all rights to its land be transferred to the state government. He assured that if additional land is required at the Yog Nagari railway station for smooth operations after the old station's closure, the state government will cooperate. The Railway Minister gave his in-principle approval to this proposal.
