A serial killer from the Rupnagar area was arrested on Tuesday. The killer is accused of killing 11 people in Punjab over the course of 18 months after robbing them after offering them lift. The accused was recognised as Ram Saroop, 33, of Chaura village in Garhshankar, Hoshiarpur.
Police claim that all of the victims were men with whom he engaged in sexual acts, mostly after offering them rides. After the men fought or refused to give him the money, the accused robbed them and killed them. The majority of the time, according to officials, the accused used a piece of cloth to strangle his victims; in other instances, the victims died from head inuries.
In one of the murders, the victim, a former soldier serving as a security guard in a private factory, had the word "Dhokebaaz" (cheater) written on his back by the accused.
Initially, the accused was held in relation to the August 18 murder of a 37-year-old man who worked as a tea and water server at Toll Plaza Modra. While being questioned, Saroop admitted to killing ten more individuals. The remaining murders are being investigated, according to the police, even though only five of these cases have been confirmed thus far.

Some of the cases include the murder of a 34-year-old tractor repairer, who was assaulted to death on April 5, and the murder of a young guy discovered in a car on January 24. The serial killer murdered individuals in Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, and Fategarh districts.
According to officials, the accused, a labourer, was addicted to drugs.
In his regret after killing, the serial killer claimed to have touched the victim's feet and begged for forgiveness. He claimed he no longer remembered the crimes and admitted to committing them only under the influence of alcohol.
According to reports, the accused was married and had three kids, but his family left him two years ago because he was homosexual.
"We have arrested the accused. He will be produced before the court soon," a police official said.
