Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection to the money laundering charges under the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy case. Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday alleged that AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal is being mistreated at the behest of the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Singh claimed that Kejriwal's wife, Sunita Kejriwal, has been denied the opportunity to meet him in person, a right granted under jail regulations.

According to Singh, the jail authorities informed Sunita Kejriwal that she could only interact with her husband through a window. He highlighted the discrepancy in treatment, noting that even hardened criminals are allowed personal meetings in the jail, while a three-time Chief Minister is denied the same privilege.

"When the wife of Arvind Kejriwal applied to meet him, she was told that you cannot meet him face-to-face but through a window. Why such inhuman behaviour... This inhuman act has been done just to humiliate and discourage the CM. I am saying with full responsibility that even the dreaded criminals are allowed to meet in the barrack, but a three-time CM of Delhi is allowed to meet his wife through a window having a glass in between," Sanjay Singh said.

Singh condemned the alleged mistreatment, stating that it was an attempt to undermine Kejriwal's morale. He said that such actions are aimed at suppressing democracy and flouting constitutional rights. The refusal to allow a face-to-face meeting between Kejriwal and his wife, according to Singh, is a clear violation of both legal norms and humane treatment standards.

Kejriwal, who is currently in judicial custody, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate last month in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. The Delhi Hich Court rejected Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest and held that ‘arrest by ED was not illegal’. The court also noted that “Arvind Kejriwal was actively involved in the use and concealment of proceeds of crime.”

Following that, Arvind Kejriwal has moved to SC challenging the Delhi High Court’s verdict, and the apex court is set to hear his plea on April 15.

Sanjay Singh, who was also previously lodged in Tihar jail in connection with the same Delhi liquor policy case, recently got out on bail.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for Kejriwal's resignation on moral grounds, citing his ongoing legal battles. However, the AAP has said the Delhi CM will continue to from jail as he is not yet convicted in the case.
