In a major relief, Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain has been granted a bail on Friday in the money laundering case. The Delhi court acknowledged that Satyendar Jain must be released and he has “suffered a long incarceration”.

Jain was accused of laundering money through four companies linked to him and was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on May 30, 2022. He was in judicial custody since then, as the agency claimed that he might try to alter the evidence if given bail. The bail order came after Rakesh Syal reserved the decision after arguments from both the accused and the ED.

The ED registered the case based on an FIR lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act. While Jain's counsel argued that the AAP leader has suffered enough in jail and investigative agencies have no substantial proof against him, the ED argued that Jain might flee and not cooperate in the investigation given provided bail in the case. Earlier, Satyendar Jain was granted bail on medical grounds when his health deteriorated.

Several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including party convenor Arvind Kejriwal and chief minister of Delhi Atishi, have expressed their gratitude towards the Rouse Avenue court of Delhi after it granted bail to AAP leader Satyendar Jain in a money laundering case after two years.

“Satyendra Jain also got bail after spending more than two years in jail. What was his fault? Several raids were conducted at his place. Not even a single penny was recovered,” Kejriwal said in a post on X.
“His only fault was that he built mohalla clinics and made all treatment free for all the people of Delhi. Modi ji put him in jail for closing down mohalla clinics and stopping free treatment for the poor. But God is with us. Today he too has been released. Welcome back, Satyendra!” he added.
