Hours after the Israeli military eliminated Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Hezbollah announced on Thursday that is escalating a new war against Israel. He was appointed as Hamas' overall leader after the assassination of political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July.
For the past two decades, he was thought to be hiding in the network of tunnels constructed by Hamas beneath Gaza. In the meantime, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the war would persist. Iran also declared that "the spirit of resistance will be strengthened" following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

"Today we have settled the score. Today evil has been struck, but our work is not finished," Netanyahu said in a recorded video statement after confirming Sinwar’s death on Thursday, according to a Reuters report. He also warned Hamas to disarm and release hostages to prevent further bloodshed.
"Hamas is a movement for liberation, driven by people seeking freedom and dignity, and it cannot be erased," Basem Naim, a senior member of Hamas's political bureau, told AFP
The Israel Defense Forces reported that its 828th Bislamach Brigade was patrolling Tal al-Sultan in Rafah when they engaged and eliminated three fighters. Initially, the incident seemed unremarkable, and soldiers returned to the area the next morning.
During the inspection of the bodies, one was found to closely resemble the Hamas leader. Due to suspected booby traps, the body could not be retrieved immediately; instead, a part of a finger was sent for testing. The body was later extracted and brought to Israel after ensuring the area was safe.
Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, believed by Israel to be the chief architect of the militant group’s deadly October 7, 2023, terror attack that set off the war in Gaza, was killed by Israeli forces, officials said.
