In a major political development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has reportedly urged the Rajya Sabha secretariat to remove Raghav Chadha as the party's deputy leader in the upper house. The ruling party in Punjab has also urged the authorities to not allocate him time for speaking in the House from the AAP's quota. As per the reports, Ashok Mittal is likely to be appointed as the new deputy leader of the party.
Chadha, for the past several months, has maintained a distance from the party leadership, leading to a possible internal rift. While the party has not mentioned any specific reason behind the decision, Chadha has been removed possibly for not speaking on the critical issues of the party.

AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal's acquittal in the Delhi Liquor case was a grand celebration moment for the party. The party leaders conducted a huge road show to send a political message to the BJP top brass; however, Chadha was seen anywhere near the party office, leading to speculations.
Chadha has not been in the party's decision-making team for over two years now. The then MLAs Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj were given the key portfolios when Kejriwal was behind the bars in the liquor policy case. However, Chadha was neither given any post in the government nor was he aggressively opposing the arrest of the party convenor.
Once considered close to Kejriwal, Chadha was not very vocal when his mentor was going through possibly the worst phase of his political career. Chadha, in the recent times, has been in the headlines for raising the issues of common people in the upper house. However, he has been removed from the key post allegedly for not speaking in the party line.
The AAP currently has 10 members in the Rajya Sabha, including seven from Punjab and three from Delhi.
