Arvind Kejriwal Arrest: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers on Saturday staged a nationwide protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the excise policy case and the misuse of central agencies by the BJP government in the national capital. The Delhi Police had earlier said that the AAP did not have permission to carry out the protest.

The decision for nationwide protest came following a meeting of senior AAP leaders at its headquarters in the national capital. They decided to take to the streets and expand the protests by the party over Kejriwal’s arrest across the country.

“The AAP workers across the country will hold massive ‘dharna’ against the BJP for misuse of investigation agencies and Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest on Saturday,” AAP national general secretary Sandeep Pathak was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Meanwhile, security has heightened outside AAP headquarters in Delhi as the party workers staged a protest against the arrest of Delhi CM Kejriwal by CBI.

AAP’s Sandeep Pathak alleged that when the BJP felt that Kejriwal was going to get bail from the Supreme Court, they put the CBI forward to stop his release. The AAP leader further said that the saffron party wants to keep the Delhi CM in jail so that he will remain away from elections and finish the AAP.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI in the Rouse Avenue court in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged excise policy scam. Kejriwal was earlier granted bail by the Rouse Avenue court, but the Delhi High Court stayed it. Following this, Kejriwal moved to the top court, however, he got no relief.

Seeking Kejriwal’s custody, the CBI told the court that he was required to be questioned to unearth the larger conspiracy in the matter. The federal probe agency also said that the Delhi chief minister must be confronted with evidence and other individuals involved in the case.

Both ED and CBI had earlier claimed that the so-called "south lobby" dictated the formulation of the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy and that Kejriwal was involved in this.

Notably, Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 and was given interim bail by the Supreme Court on May 10 till June 1 to campaign for the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
