A day after veteran actor Rajnikanth met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and even touched his feet, the actor met up with his longtime friend, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday at his residence in Lucknow before heading to Ayodhya.

Akhilesh Yadav also shared a picture of him hugging the South Indian superstar on X, formerly known as Twitter. Both of them had a conversation. He also shared another picture in which both were seen sharing a laugh, sitting together at his residence.

“When hearts meet, people embrace. During my engineering studies in Mysore, the happiness I used to feel seeing Rajinikanth ji on the screen is still intact. We met in person 9 years back and have been friends ever since…” Yadav tweeted in Hindi.

Rajnikanth also paid tribute to Akhilesh’s father Mulayam Singh Yadav. He folded his hands in front of a picture of Mulayam and paid him tribute.

The actor is currently on a spiritual tour across several cities of the country. He left for the Himalayas a day before his movie ‘Jailer’ was released in theatres on August 10. He visited several temples and shrines in Uttarakhand, including the Badrinath Dham.

Following his meeting with the Samajwadi Party chief, Ranjnikanth said, "I met Akhilesh 9 years ago at a function in Mumbai and we have been friends ever since. We keep talking over phone. Five years ago, I had come here for a shoot but I couldn't meet him. Now I am here again, so I made sure I meet him this time.”

Earlier, Rajnikanth went to Ranchi where he also visited the famous Chhinnamasta Temple in the state on Friday and offered prayers. He also spent an hour meditating at Yagoda Ashram in Ranchi. The actor will visit the Ayodhya Temple in Uttar Pradesh today.
