After Bihar, the Election Commission is likely to hold the simultaneous Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls across the country. According to a report by Jagran.com, the Commission has made the plan after questions were raised by the opposition parties about conducting SIR in Bihar alone. The final decision in this regard is likely to be taken soon.

The Commission has called a meeting of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all the states and union territories on September 10. It is expected that the poll body will review the implementation of steps related to election reforms, including the instructions regarding preparations for SIR.

Earlier, the Commission was preparing to conduct SIR in those states only where assembly elections are to be held next year. These include West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry.

However, because of the questions raised by the opposition about its timing and selective implementation, the poll body is now working on a plan to conduct it across the country.

After completing it in record time in Bihar, the Commission believes that it can now implement it across the country on the same pattern. The Supreme Court verdict has further solidified its commitment to holding the exercise.

The report further stated that the Chief Electoral Officers of all states and union territories have already been instructed to prepare for SIR. The final decision will be taken after considering their preparedness and feedback.

Based on the indications, the report claimed the announcement can be made by the end of September. The Bihar SIR will end on September 30 with the publication of the final electoral rolls.
