Ahmedabad-Mumbai Traffic: Traffic on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway came to a standstill as a massive jam stretching over 15 kilometres troubled commuters for more than 24 hours. The situation worsened on Thursday morning, with ambulances getting stuck in the congestion and authorities struggling to manage the flow amid continuous rainfall and poor road conditions.
The worst-affected stretch was from Golden Chokdi to Por, where traffic moved at a crawling pace. Vadodara district Superintendent of Police Rohan Anand attributed the prolonged jam to two major bottlenecks near Por and Jambuva. These points, where the six-lane highway narrows into four-lane bridges, are prone to congestion—especially during heavy vehicle movement.
The Indian Express reeport cited SP Anand as stating that, “The weather has slightly cleared today, so we hope traffic might ease in the coming hours.” He also confirmed that the region had received heavy rain over the last week, causing potholes and further road damage.
Police personnel stationed at Jambuva and Por said three ambulances were seen stuck in the traffic since 4 AM on Thursday, with no option for creating a clear passage. A police officer on site explained that while slow traffic had persisted for a week due to bad roads, the last three days had seen full-scale traffic jams—particularly when heavy trucks struggled to manoeuvre the pothole-ridden route.
“This is a common issue during the monsoon every year,” the officer added. “The rains worsen road conditions and the lack of alternate routes around bottlenecks makes the traffic unmanageable.”
Long queues of lorries and private vehicles could be seen on the flyovers near the approach road to National Expressway-1. Despite efforts to coordinate with various traffic teams, officers said clearing the jam remained difficult due to ongoing rains and deteriorating road conditions.
