Ahmedabad Plane Crash: In the aftermath of the devastating Air India Flight AI-171 crash near Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, BJ Medical College (BJMC) has announced the cancellation of all ongoing and upcoming internal MBBS examinations with new dates to be out later. The decision was made after the crash directly struck a building housing medical students, leaving many in a state of psychological trauma. Over 500 students have been affected, particularly those in the first and second years, and more than 200 have returned home due to fear and emotional distress.
“In light of the current mental and emotional state of our students, and the logistical disruption caused by the collapse of the mess-cum-hostel building, all internal theory and practical exams stand postponed until further notice,” a senior BJMC official confirmed.
The aircraft’s wing reportedly hit the mess-cum-hostel structure, which housed both residential and dining facilities for students. The mess was located on the first and second floors of the building, making it unusable after the incident. Many MBBS residents and interns are now without access to regular meals or basic services.
College authorities also decided to cancel the summer vacation for all medical faculty and doctors, who have been asked to report for duty starting June 14. The second phase of the summer break was originally scheduled to begin on June 13, but given the urgent medical needs of victims being treated at Civil Hospital, BJMC has redirected all staff to assist with ongoing care efforts.

Sources told IANS that at least 40 students who were present at the hostel during the crash are still in a state of deep psychological shock. The exams will only be rescheduled once students have recovered enough to resume academic activities, officials added.
