Ahmedabad News: A 100-metre stretch of road outside Maninagar Railway Station will be closed to traffic for three months, according to a notification from the Ahmedabad City Police issued on Wednesday. The closure is necessitated by construction work for the High-Speed Rail (Bullet Train) project.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) NN Chaudhary stated that the section between Jagadiya Bridge and the Maninagar GRP police station will remain inaccessible as rail tracks are installed on the pillars set up for the bullet train.

Ahmedabad Traffic Advisory: Alternative Routes

To aid commuters during this period, the notification outlines two alternative routes. The first route directs traffic from Bhairavnath Road through Jashodanagar Chowkdi, Jaihind Crossroads and Swaminarayan Temple, leading to the railway station via an open one-way street. The second option allows vehicles to travel from Kankaria Lake to Maninagar Crossroads, LG Hospital, and then towards the Gurudwara before turning towards the railway station or other roads. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays.

In separate news, Ahmedabad police registered 199 prohibition-related cases on New Year's Day, arresting 176 individuals for violating the prohibition law. Authorities seized 530 litres of country-made liquor, three 750ml bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), six 175ml small bottles of liquor, and 51 beer cans. Despite a strategy to assign one officer per bootlegger to monitor movements, individuals managed to bypass surveillance gaps.

The police inspected 9,220 vehicles in Sector-1, covering western and walled city areas, resulting in 106 violations. Zone-2, which includes several police stations, recorded the highest number of cases, with 41 violations. In comparison, the average number of prohibition cases per month in December is typically between 80 and 90. The police’s surveillance plan involving 1,770 registered bootleggers proved insufficient in curbing alcohol-related violations.
