Lok Sabha Elections Tamil Nadu: The main opposition party in Tamil Nadu All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Wednesday announced a pre-poll coalition with the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) for the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls. Addressing a press conference in Chennai the AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami announced the new-formed alliance with the DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth.
Seat-sharing done
According to the press statement given by Palaniswami, the AIADMK will field its candidates on 34 of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Whereas, DMDK will contest on five LS constituencies. DMDK will sound the electoral bugle on Thanjavur, Virudhunagar, Tiruvallur, Central Chennai and Cuddalore.
"We are going to face this parliamentary election together. A total of 5 constituencies have been allotted to the DMDK. These are Thanjavur, Virudhunagar, Tiruvallur, Central Chennai and Cuddalore," AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami said while announcing the alliance.
Elections in a single phase
The 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Tamil Nadu are scheduled to finish in phase one of the polling on April 19. With a total of 39 seats in the fray, parties such as DMK, AIADMK, DMDK, PMK, BJP and Congress have fielded their candidates.
DMK Forges alliance with Congress,
The ruling party DMK, a part of the INDIA alliance, has partnered with Congress, CPI, CPI (M) and VCK for the general elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. As per the seat-sharing arrangement, the Congress has been allocated 10 seats (in addition to the single seat in Puducherry), while the CPI, CPI(M), and VCK have been granted two seats each. Furthermore, the IUML, MDMK, and KMDK have been assigned one seat each. Except for the Congress, candidates for all other parties within the DMK alliance have been announced.
